You don’t always need camera movement to pick up some creative shots. Placing cameras in unique locations can add more energy and intrigue to a show. Enter the Zcam from PTZOptics. Simple to use. Small and compact. Now with the added benefit of NDI. Check out this episode of On the Bench as Nick Smith pries out the gooey NDI goodness found inside the ZCam.

Numerous camera firmware updates include the ability to use broadcast frames up to 1080p59.97, which provide new integrations with equipment such as the NewTek Tricaster, AJA, Magewell, and Atomos equipment. The newly updated TCP communications in all PTZOptics cameras now offer open-source computer programming and support for the industries top live streaming software solutions such as Wirecast, Livestream Studio, NewTek Tricaster Mini and many more. The PTZOptics ZCam line now includes support for the free PTZOptics Mac and PC control applications which feature multicamera panoramic preset visualization tools.

You don’t always need your camera to be able to move to pick up some creative shots. Often times a fixed camera can add awesome production value. Placing cameras in unique locations can add more energy and intrigue to a show than a standard two shot. A camera shot placed below the drummer getting that close up of a kick drum. A camera connected to a helmet tells your audience “watch this… someone’s gonna crash soon.” But typical cameras are too big for this and if you’re producing a live show using a small camera like a GoPro can be tricky since they don’t really have mechanisms for controlling the camera or even a great way to connect the little tiny HDMI port on the side to a production switcher.

E-Sports – The players sit in one place and there is a fixed view of them during the game. So, having a small camera with a modicum of camera control and as few cables as possible become the ideal solution for the application. And if it had NDI built in, then a single cable could drive, power and transmit video.

This little beauty has been around for a while. Simple to use. Small and compact. Use a Noga arm and C-Clamp to mount it just about anywhere. It has SDI outputs and very easy onscreen controls for getting the shot dialed in.

Now comes the ZCam NDI version. All the same features as before but with the added goodness of NewTek’s own NDI codec built in plus a few bonuses.

  1. Power over Ethernet
  2. Network Control
  3. Video over IP in the form of NDI

Modern video production is now ruled by one cable. The ethernet cable. For the ZCam this means you run one cable. Mount the camera and your production begins. No need for SDI. Additionally, zoom and control of the camera are done from an external controller or from the production switcher if it offers camera control.

The ZCam now becomes the most flexible camera you can own for getting those creative shots that couldn’t be done with a traditional camera robotic or not. Single cable, NDI, small and affordable. If you’re ready to add some new life to an old production or you want to get the most of your production budget, it’s time to look at the ZCam NDI from PTZOptics.
